Choosing

Side work that fits a marked hour

Longer note · updated October 2026

Some side work fits neatly into an hour. Some spreads, because other people set its pace. If your evenings are limited, that difference matters as much as what the work pays.

Work that stops cleanly

  • Simple online tasks and data entry
  • Listing items you've already photographed
  • Writing or editing with a deadline days away

Work that spreads

  • Answering customer messages as they arrive
  • Client projects with frequent revisions
  • Anything where someone expects a quick reply

Making spreading work fit

Agree response times in writing before you start, check messages at fixed times, and say clearly when you're unavailable. Clients and platforms that won't accept any limits may not suit evening work.
